World of Lights & Shadows Contd…

by Harish Mohan on Nov.24, 2010, under Portraits

I am constantly trying to improve on my lighting techniques & in the coming days you guys will see more from me.I request you guys to scribble in my comments session if you liked it or not or any criticism or any ideas so that i can keep improving this.

So now these three shots were taken yesterday with my wife as the model. I had always a liking towards dark b&w contrasty portraits & these are some taken with my limited equipments.

These are not typical lighting used for a girls photo,i guess these lights looks better on a male, but i had to try this on someone & my wife was the only default model i have.

Its hard to get desired results on a pic when you are doing all these in a small apartment filled with furniture & with only one flash in hand. But there are a lot of potential use which I am still exploring.

The below I kind of liked because i liked the smile on her face & i guess that soft lighting added to it.

World of light & shadows.

by Harish Mohan on Nov.22, 2010, under Portraits

Some one has said ,Once photography enters your bloodstream, it’s like a disease.
And guess what. I am sick. However I am more than happy about it.
And now i guess i am moving towards more acute stages of this disease & one of the symptoms of it is my sudden interest in light, shadows & portraits.Trying hard to get hold of this from last couple of months, finally i decided to get some expert advice on this & the last weekend i met one of my greatest inspiration in recent times & a stunning photographer Anirban Chatterjee.

Here I am Sharing with you some my experiments with light & shadows under the guidance of Anirban during the workshop.

Concepts of light has been always fascinating to me & i have always wanted to play around with it.
I always knew that the presence of light is interesting & worth experimenting , but now i realize that the lack of it is as interesting as the presence of it.

The below Two shots were taken by Anirban himself & I once again thank him for all his guidance & time.

I think i have fallen in love with the world of Light & shadows.
Wish me luck in this new found love.

First love still remains my wife..hee hee.its imp to put in such disclaimer you know ;-)

Portrait Shoot of My favorite Model-My wife.

by Harish Mohan on Mar.26, 2010, under Portraits

I am in a process of creating a portfolio of my work & for that i wanted to go for a shoot for a long time, but work was not allowing me to venture out with my cam ,so finally today night,i again made my wife to pose for me and tried out some different lighting effect.Though the lack of a soft box or proper lighting is clearly visible in the shot,i tried my best to get some good lighting and the max i could manage was a CFL & some butter paper(was trying to create a poor man’s soft box but in vain).but then what ever i got was decent enough and some were i liked the result minus the flat light on her face.
